Ball in Zuma's court to accept or reject recall - EWN's Clement Manyathela

EWN reporter Clement Manyathela says the ANC NEC meeting that was held on Monday, which carried on into the early hours of Tuesday morning, resolved that Jacob Zuma must go.

He says Cyril Ramaphosa cancelled last week's NEC meeting because Zuma gave him an undertaking that he will resign but wanted to stay in office for a few months.

When Ramphosa took that request to the NEC, it was rejected.

The President said I am not going anywhere, do what you have to do, if you are not giving me the three months I am not going anywhere.

Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter

They went back to the NEC and that's when the NEC took a decision to recall him.

Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter

According to Manyathela it is understood that the ANC is drafting a letter to President Zuma informing him of their decision.

The ball is in his court now. He has to decided whether he accepts this recall or he is refusing it and if he refuses the ANC is going to instruct its members in Parliament to table a motion of no confidence

Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter

At the moment the ANC is waiting for President Zuma tell them whether he accepts of rejects a decision to recall him before they can take any action in parliament.

A press conference will be held on Tuesday at 12 noon to give details of their decision on Zuma.
