Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane has repeated calls for Parliament to either be dissolved or move on with the business of electing a new president.
Maimane says it is crucial for President Jacob Zuma to resign following a decision by the African National Congress (ANC) to recall him.

What has been hurting ANC all along is that they have come to Parliament permanently to defend Jacob Zuma. Now that they have taken a decision to remove him, it becomes absolutely crucial that he must go.

I really think that we should move on this with urgency, allow for Parliament to be convened on Thursday, and let's vote Jacob Zuma out, and begin a new chapter for South Africa.

Speaking on the issue of state capture, Maimane says the party should be held responsible as a collective.
We don't have a Zuma problem, we have an ANC problem. The ANC can't come now and say by offering a sacrificial lamb of Jacob Zuma, it somewhat absolves them of all their sins. The fact is, it was Malusi Gigaba who started the process of State Capture when he took over as Minister of Public Enterprise, in a Cabinet that Cyril Ramaphosa sits in.

Meanwhile, associate editor at Tiso BlackStar Ranjeni Munusamy says the ANC must employ whatever mechanisms necessary to give effect to their decision to recall the President.
Although the ANC secretary general was trying to wriggle out of articulating what happens next, the last line of the written statement says that parliamentary mechanisms now take effect.
