Western Cape Premier Helen Zille says the Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature will decide if the 2018 State of the Province Address (Sopa) should be postponed.
Zille is expected to deliver Sopa at the opening of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament on Friday, 16 February.
However, due to recent political developments, it is possible that the 2018 State of the Nation Address (Sona) may take place on Friday.
Zille believes that the Sopa should go on as scheduled, but says she will take instruction from Speaker Sharna Fernandez.
The Premier says that her Sopa address will focus on health, education and the economy in the Western Cape.
My view is that we should continue, but my view isn't the relevant view here.— Helen Zille, Western Cape Premier
The Speaker will take advice and I will fall in with the decision she's empowered to take.— Helen Zille, Western Cape Premier
It's critical that we create the context for jobs. That's going to be good news in this year's Sopa.— Helen Zille, Western Cape Premier
