Political desk: Who will be South Africa's deputy president?

News24 political editor Mahlase Mahlase says President Cyril Ramaphosa has indicated that he will be intervening in a number of government departments which might indicate that those ministers are in the firing line.

During the State of the Nation address last week, Ramaphosa indicated that he will personally be involved in solving the SASSA debacle.

The announcement by President Ramaphosa that he is intervening in terms of the mining charter and managing to postpone at the last hour that court bid, shows that there is an already an awkward relationship going on between him and Minister Zwane.

The big question doing the rounds is whether Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Lindiwe Sisulu, Baleka Mbete or Phumzile Mlambo Nqcuka will be appointed as the Deputy president of the country.

With a cabinet reshuffle on the cards by the new sheriff in town, the opposition parties have called for minister Malusi Gigaba to be removed from his Finance portfolio. He is meant to deliver the budget speech on Wednesday.

Listen to the political desk discuss what might happen this week in the politics space...
