NUM backs Mineral Resources official allegedly axed over Gupta-linked mine

The National Union of Mineworkers has found fault with the dismissal of Mineral Resources Mpumalanga regional manager‚ Aubrey Tshivhandekano.

The NUM says Tshivhandekano was axed last week as he was about to issue the Koornfontein colliery‚ owned by the Gupta-linked Tegeta Resources‚ a notice for non-compliance with its mining rights.

Chairperson of NUM Highveld, Nelson Ratshoshi says Tshivhandekano was fired only minutes after requesting documents from the mine.

We found that the company is not complying and he gave them the deadline to submit documents that were not there on the day and Tuesday was the cut off date. Unfortunately ten minutes after the meting, he received a letter from the DG to say you are dismissed with immediate effect.

He was not rude, he was also advising them to say if you want to align yourself with said requirements of the DMR, here are the steps you need to follow. It was unfortunate the young man pressed the wrong button. He tried the Guptas.

Nelson Ratshoshi, Chairperson of NUM Highveld

Ratshoshi has repeated calls for Minerals Minister Mosebenzi Zwane to be fired.

He says Tshivhandekano should be reinstated.

There is a procedural defect. Prior to the person being dismissed, you have to attend a hearing.
