Sewage spill leads to beach closures in Umhlanga, Durban

Durban's Umhlanga beach has been closed due to a sewage spill.

The Ethekwini Municipality in partnership with uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precincts are working together to fix the burst pipe.

UIP spokesperson Cara Reilly says it seems the pipes burst on Tuesday night. She says the overflow of sewage was first noticed by UIP members.

Reilly says the pipes have been affected by a heavy flow of storm water.

She also says reopening of the beach will be determined by the extent of the damage to the pipes.
