Low vaccine supplies cited as a cause of European measles outbreak

World Health Organisation has stated that the measles outbreak in Europe has been a tragedy.

EWN UK Correspondent, Gavin Grey says several reasons for the measles outbreak in Europe have been outlined. Interruptions in the vaccine supply and low coverage in some marginalised groups are among the problems leading to the outbreak.

Immunisation in particular countries have had problems in recent years...the overall routine in immunisation coverage has been constantly low in some marginalised groups.

He an under-performing surveillance system has limited being able to see how the disease is being combated.

Grey says measles does not only lead to death, but can cause long-term damage.
