Public Enterprises Ministry defends Brown, says facts being twisted

Spokesperson for Minister of Public Enterprises Lynne Brown, Colin Cruywagen says the minister received only information from Eskom about its dealings with Trillian in December 2016.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa, Cruywagen says when it emerged that the information was incorrect, the minister informed the Speaker and the Public Protector.

When a question is asked of her about operational matters, the minister is not an executive person or a CEO who sits at an office of a company and knows every detail.

When a question is asked of the minister - in this case as far as Eskom is concerned - the minister's offices send it off to Eskom.

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwabane says Minister Brown misled Parliament when stating that a local consultancy firm, linked to business associates of former President Jacob Zuma, had no contracts with power utility Eskom.
