[LISTEN] NPA sets record straight on Prasa, but Zackie Achmat remains firm

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has responded to statements made by activist and group leader of #UniteBehind Zackie Achmat, made in an interview on Wednesday's Eusebius McKaiser Show.

In a discussion about a state capture probe into the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa), Achmat said the Hawks are opposing investigations into the railway agency, accusing NPA head Shaun Abrahams of failing to seize assets at the company despite overwhelming evidence.

As we speaking now, the Hawks are in court opposing investigations into Prasa. there is a case brought by Popo Molefe because the Hawks had taken more than two years to investigate with overwhelming evidence, one and a half billion pages in documents which had been looked at, and clear evidence of money flows and everything was made.

Zackie Achmat, ,Activist and group leader of Unite Behind

We have a situation where Shaun Abrahams is gong up against Prasa and saying he is not investigating these matters. Shaun is failing to do asset forfeiture seizures.

LISTEN: How State Capture Happened at Prasa.

What Zackie said on Wednesday as to the effect that the national director opposed the application that was brought by Dr Popo Molefe to force the NPA and the Hawks to investigate the Prasa matter. That is not correct.

Advocate Luvuyo Mfaku, NPA spokesperson

What we did, we filed a notice to abide, and prior the correction , the NDDP had written to Dr Molefe explaining the role of the NPA in terms of prosecutorial guidance that it has been rendering to the Hawks in respect of the investigation and the role of NPA's asset forfeiture investigation.

Subsequent to that the applicant abandoned the relief that he sought against the NPA, so the NPA is not party to the proceedings.
