Pick n Pay 'devastated' by looting of Gugs spaza shop during violent protests

Supermarket chain Pick n Pay has spoken of its devastation following the looting of one of its spaza shops in Gugulethu at the weekend.

Pumla's Place, which opened recently and is located next to renowned eatery Mzoli's, was targeted by protesters on Sunday.

Marketing Director at Pick n Pay, Jonathan Ackerman, says they've been in communication with the owner of the shop and are offering her their full support.

The store is destroyed. The community came after one of their own and it is completely devastating.

Ackerman says the shop is insured under Pick'n Pay's insurance scheme.

Phumla [shop owner] will get 100% support from us to get her business up and running again.

Jonathan Ackerman, Marketing Director at Pick n Pay

We are not going to let small incidents take away the positives. We are going to support her to rebuild her store, if the community wants us back, we are right there to support her.
