The man behind popular South African steakhouse chain Spur is set to retire after 51 years of service.
Allen Ambor is the founder and executive chairman of the franchise which first opened in Newlands, Cape Town, in 1967.
The group was listed on the travel and leisure sector of the JSE in 1986 and in December 1990 a second restaurant brand, Panarotti's Pizza Pasta, was developed.
The group continued to acquire other brands like RocoMamas and John Dory’s Fish, Grill & Sushi.
CEO Pierre van Tonder, said in a statement, “We thank Allen for his unrivaled passion, commitment and inspiration over the past five decades in building Spur Corporation into the market-leading business that it is today,”
Ambor will retire from the company and the board with effect from 1 March 2019.
According to Spur, the nominations to identify a new board chairman will commence shortly.
