On Wednesday, many of the Standard Bank services were down.
Sibongiseni Ngundze, Head Retail Banking at Standard Bank has apologised to its customers for the inconvenience.
Our deepest apologies to our customers for the inconvenience they have experienced throughout the day.— Sibongiseni Ngundze, Head Retail Banking at Standard Bank
Ngundze says they picked up the problem around 7:30 am and that a number of services were not available. He says they entered critical situational mode to try and rectify the problem.
The technical team started recovering the services around 1:30 pm, initially starting off with enabling customers to withdraw money from our ATMS, over the counters at our branches and most importantly we have for most parts during the day, allowed to have customers to swipe and pay for purchases at retailers.— Sibongiseni Ngundze, Head Retail Banking at Standard Bank
Ngundze says that lastly, they brought the mobile and internet banking back online, but they have been experiencing a lot of intermittent problems on these platforms as it comes back on.
To counter this, Ngundze says that they will be keeping their branches open until the last customer is serviced, and the call centre will stay open. He adds that at this point they are not sure what caused the services to crash, but they will find out as soon as their services are stable.
