'It's in public interest for allegations against Mabuza to be tested in court'

Analyst Somadoda Fikeni says allegations of governmental impropriety and assassinations have been levelled against Mabuza.

Political analyst Professor Somadoda Fikeni says allegations of governmental impropriety, political assassinations and more levelled against now deputy president, DD Mabuza should be tested in court.

He believes the man is no threat to the country right now with Cyril Ramaphosa in charge but adds there are many allegations around Mabuza.

What should worry South Africans is to have the hanging cloud of all sorts of allegations, none of them going to the courts or commissions of inquiry.

Professor Somadoda Fikeni, political analyst

He says witnesses should come forward with tangible proof so that Mabuza can go through a process that will either clear him of the accusations or not, and the mater can be resolved once and for all.

He says there is another possibility. If Mabuza knows the spotlight is on him, he may turn out to be Ramaphosa's most loyal supporter and not want to make any mistakes which might see those allegations tested.

Mabuza himself spoke to the media after he was sworn in as deputy president and said the allegations were untrue and a product of jealousy by those who found it hard to believe someone from his background could rise up through the political ranks.

Take a listen to Fikeni's take on the concerns raised around DD Mabuza:
