"The General is back, out with the Twitter Guy, in with the Tough Guy"

Former Police Commissioner and newly elected Police Minister Bheki Cele says he is ready to put the country first and has denied his controversial shoot to kill stance.

Cele was sworn in as Police Minister by President Cyril Ramaphosa in his Cabinet reshuffle on Monday night.

Cele also spoke briefly about the raid by the Hawks on journalist, Jacques Pauw's home on Wednesday. Pauw is the author of The President's Keepers that details fraud and corruption allegedly at the hands of former President Jacob Zuma.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa, Cele promised South Africans that his department will hit the ground running and will not stand in the way of other crime intelligence units from doing their jobs. Cele said he will clean up all other structures and urged police to work together.

I have spoken tough, police should not die with their guns in their hands.

Referring to the raid on Pauw's house, Cele said:

I have not been briefed on that matter... just give me time to understand how they arrived at that situation. But at the same time I agree with you, we cannot allow those structures to be used for whatever political outcome.
