In January this year there was incident of a blood stain in the communal bathroom seat at Topbet SA's Germiston branch. The managers instructed all the workers to go through an inspection to determine who had stained the toilet.
Bongani Bingwa spoke to one of the women who went through the ordeal and she says she has been suspended from work for speaking out.
I told the manger I am 56-years-old, I'm no longer menstruating. She answered me and say whether you menstruate or not you must go inside.— Gladys Radebe, Suspended Topbet worker
Gladys says the experience was humiliating and she told the managers she is going to open a charge against them. On February 22, Gladys was suspended from work and told she is costing the company money with her police case.
Just because they are now getting heat from the media, the are starting to say lies. These all are lies.— Gladys Radebe, Suspended Topbet worker
The co-owner of Topbet has refuted claim that Gladys was searched. She says the two older ladies were excluded from the incident and they have statements the support the claims.
Ainsling O' Connor says Gladys has been suspended based on legal advise because there is an ongoing case.
The only evidence we have is the written statement from the cleaners that she (Gladys) and the other elderly lady were not searched.— Ainsling O’Connor, co-owner of Topbet
We have suspended her because the rape cases she has laid, the police and the labour lawyers have suggested we suspend her.— Ainsling O’Connor, co-owner of Topbet
