Dudu Myeni given 24 hours to produce doctor's note for missing Eskom inquiry

Former Eskom board chairperson Ben Ngubane is testifying before a parliamentary inquiry into the mismanagement of public funds.

EWN reporter Lindsay Dentlinger says Ngubane has given testimony on the controversial pension payout agreement that the company entered into with former chief executive Brian Molefe.

Dentlinger says Ngubane is also being asked about the prepayment Eskom made to Gupta-owned mining company Tegeta Resources and Exploration. She says Ngubane told the inquiry that this kind of payment was not usual.

The evidence leader grilled Ngubane on the nitty-gritty on how it came to be that; that agreement was reached and questioned him about the court ruling and the way he interprets the ruling.

According to Ben Ngubane; when the management brought that matter to the board, they understood that a prepayment for coal -which he said was not a unique situation - was a strategic move on Eskom's part.

The committee is planning on finishing the inquiry next week. It is still waiting for testimony from Malusi Gigaba, Duduzane Zuma, Dudu Myeni and the Gupta brothers.

They have now given Dudu Myeni 24 hours to produce a doctors note as to why she can't fly to Cape Town. She has sent a written submission to the inquiry. They are not taking that, and they say its not enough they want to speak to her.
