Listeriosis: Consumer law allows lawsuit against anyone in supply chain - expert

Not all house brands of processed meats have been affected by the listeriosis outbreak, says consumer journalist Wendy Knowler.

Retailers Woolworths and Pick 'n Pay have some of their house brands supplied by listeriosis-linked facilities.

This week, scientists traced the source of the present outbreak of listeriosis to an Enterprise Foods facilities and a Rainbow Foods facility.

Consumers are expected to bring a class action lawsuit against Tiger Brands, who deny a link between their products and the 180 deaths.

Personal injury lawyer Kirstie Haslam says affected consumers can sue anyone in the supply chain, including manufactures, retailers, distributors and importers.

Haslam says consumers can sue in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) or common law.
