Justice and Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha, Police Minister Bheki Cele and former police minister Fikile Mbalula have been called to parliament to explain challenges in the investigation and prosecution of state capture cases.
The portfolio committee on justice and correctional services and the portfolio committee on police have raised concern over the apparent slow progress of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
Chair of the ANC Study Group on Justice and Correctional Services and Police, Francois Beukman says a joint meeting was held with head of NPA head Shaun Abrahams, and the acting head of the Hawks, Lt-Gen Yolisa Makataka on Wednesday.
We had quite extensive explanation from the head of the NDPP, Advocate Abrahams, although General Makataka didn't really give comprehensive details.— Francois Beukman, Chair of the ANC Study Group on Justice and Correctional Services and Police
But what is concerning to us at this stage is there should be in prosecution lead investigations, especially in relation to integrate commercial crime and like the Estina case, there should be good cooperation between the two institutions.— Francois Beukman, Chair of the ANC Study Group on Justice and Correctional Services and Police
The long delay in this matter, bringing it to court and dealing with the suspects is of huge concern to us because if it is a matter that affects the confidence in the justice system and law enforcement agencies, it must be dealt with head on.— Francois Beukman, Chair of the ANC Study Group on Justice and Correctional Services and Police
