International Women's Day celebrates women in technology

In celebration of International Women’s Day, CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies speaks to chairperson of Women in Tech South Africa, Robyn Farah, to discuss the under-representation of feamles in the sector.

Women in Tech South Africa highlights different females who made a mark in the tech industry in South Africa to give girls an opportunity to aspire to be like them.

A lot of girls I have spoken to don't get a lot of support from their family... even when they go to university the people around them are supporting them in a way of saying, why are doing that because it's a man's job?

Robyn Farah, chairperson of Women in Tech South Africa

We try to give them that support system but it needs to start with the family seeing that a female can do that too and that could be my daughter.

Robyn Farah, chairperson of Women in Tech South Africa

From there we are trying to educate girls to understand the world as fun and exciting place, and the world is made up of maths, science and technology.

Robyn Farah, chairperson of Women in Tech South Africa
