The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviews Rob Shuter, CEO of MTN Group, Africa’s largest mobile phone operator.

MTN Group on Thursday reported headline earnings of R3.3 billion – amounting to 182 cents a share – in the year to 31 December 2017.

This compares to a loss of R1.4 billion in the year before, when the company paid once-off charges relating to a US$1.1 billion Nigerian fine.

The MTN Group is Africa’s biggest mobile phone operator.

The South African behemoth’s home market overtook Nigeria as its largest revenue generator during the reporting period.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed MTN Group CEO Rob Shuter.

Listen to the interview in the audio below (and/or scroll down for quotes from it).

We’ve got just short of 220 million customers… There’s still a lot of customer growth [outside of South Africa]…

Rob Shuter, MTN Group

Data pricing has moved a lot in South Africa… We focus a lot on reducing the entry-level price of data… Post-paid data prices are very competitive in South Africa...
