‘I wanted it to be a real movie, with real issues’ – Kagiso Lediga, director

We are shining the spotlight on a wonderful South African film titled Catching Feelings which was written and directed by prominent comedian, director, actor and writer Kagiso Lediga.

Catching Feelings follows the life of married couple whose life becomes complicated when a disruptive figure causes chaos and destruction. Lediga's character (Max) is then left conflicted when he has to leave his wife Sam (Pearl Thusi) while he travels to Cape Town.

There’s a part where she (Sam) talks about the kind of things that she wants to do with her life and he (Max) sort of wants to settle.

Lediga says that he wanted the film to be a conversational movie that focused on the narrative of the black, middle-class.

South Africans love the romcom genre but I thought this film should not be one of those movies that have a predictable ending says Lediga. He adds that the movie gave him a chance to infuse the storyline with serious issues.

I wanted it to be a real movie, with real issues.
