[LISTEN] Class action lawsuit launched against listeriosis food company

Human rights lawyer Richard Spoor is launching a class action lawsuit against Tiger Brands over its link to the listeriosis outbreak.

He says there is statistical evidence to show that the firm's Polokwane Enterprise factory is to blame for the outbreak.

Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi last week announced that the source of the contamination had been traced to the factory and advised people not to eat any form of cold meats.

There is overwhelming evidence that their factory is contaminated and that they were selling and distributing contaminated stuff.

Spoor, who has spearheaded a number of class action suits, says Tiger Brands can survive the financial impact of a lawsuit, but its reputation will be damaged.

The harm isn't the risk of the lawsuit, the harm is the loss of confidence in their product.
