Police monitoring Uber-metered taxi violence in Tshwane

Gauteng police say they have established a joint operation to monitor tensions between the metered taxi industry and e-hailing services.

An Uber driver in Tshwane has refused to press charges after a 39-year old metered taxi driver smashed the window of his car on Friday,

Twenty people have so far been arrested in Pretoria in connection with deadly tensions between the metered taxi drivers and e-hailing services.

Saps spokesperson David Mavimbela spoke to Stephen Grootes on the 702 Afternoon Drive.

The person who had identified the suspect as the one who had allegedly smashed the windows of his vehicle made an about turn and refused to press charges.

Daniel Mavimbela, police spokesperson

Because we take this thing very seriously, there is a joint operation centre that we have established in Sunnyside. It is actually a multi-disciplinary team lead by the Saps.
