ANC stalwarts 'hopeful' after meeting with Ramaphosa

African National Congress stalwarts have met with President Cyril Ramaphosa following strained relations between the veterans and the party.

The party's president met with the stalwarts on Sunday to discuss their concerns and resolutions from last December’s ANC conference.

Clement Mayathela has more on the story.

They [the stalwarts] are buying into what is being described lately as the new dawn. They are saying they are quite hopeful that this is the leadership of the ANC that will start engaging with them.

Clement Manyathela, EWN political reporter

If you listen to what Cyril Ramaphosa is saying, he needs these stalwarts to start helping the party campaign and start working and taking part in the veterans' league - but that is where former President Jacob Zuma will be.

Clement Manyathela, EWN political reporter

It would be interesting to sit in one of those meetings in the veterans' league with these stalwarts who didn't see eye to eye with the former president, and see how they would interact.
