An SMS from the Democratic Alliance over the weekend reading "ANC & EFF working together to take all private land and homes. You can only stop this if you're registered correctly to vote! Check now." has got a lot of people hot under the collar.
On Monday the DA held a press briefing to clarify its position on land reform and expropriation.
EWN reporter Clement Manyathela attended the briefing.
He says the DA did not refer to the SMS itself, but rather to the content of it.
Especially where it referred to the ANC and DA working together to remove people from their private property.— Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter
He says the DA reiterated its position against the expropriation of land without compensation.
They said this model pursued by the EFF would definitely strip people of all their property, it would strip business owners of their businesses, and even innovators of their intellectual property.— Clement Manyathela, EWN reporter
The DA does not believe government should not be the sole custodians or owners of land, reports Manyathela.
Manyathela says DA leader Mmusi Maimane denied the party was fear-mongering. Maimane said this is what the DA genuinely believes will be the ramifications of the EFF and ANC approach on land reform.
Listen to Clement Manyathela's report below:
Got an sms this morning. "The EFF and ANC are in league with the Illuminati plotting to implant microchips in our skin and implement a one world government. Have you registered to vote yet?" Thanks, @Our_DA!— Deep Fried Man (@DeepFriedMan) March 12, 2018
Is it legal for @Our_DA to SMS me without an opt out option in the SMS? Cannot handle the fearmongering and am giving no option to not receive these messages.— Eulogi (@Eulogs) March 7, 2018
