Political Desk: It would be stupid to underestimate Julius Malema

ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa desperately needs the party's Veterans League on side.

That's according to News24 Political Editor Mahlatse Mahlase who joined Bongani Bingwa on the Political Desk on Tuesday morning.

Mahlase says Ramaphosa needs a structure in the ANC that supports him.

She also accused Ramaphosa and his deputy David Mabuza of a low blow, by publicly asking EFF leader Julius Malema to return to the ANC.

They would be stupid to underestimate Julius Malema. He is clearly making the right sounds that are appealing to young people, when the ANC , at this time, has a non-functional youth league.

Meanwhile Mahlase has weighed in on the Democratic Alliance's recent SMS campaign on land expropriation without compensation, saying it appears to have backfired.

This is a fear tactic that they have used. To be playing with people's emotions; there are a lot of negative reactions to that. I think the DA has to do a lot more to explain to South Africans what their stance is.
