After more than 10 attacks on Metrorail employees in less than a week, 6 trains have also been removed from service after recently being vandalised.
Ishmael Mnisi, spokesperson for the Department of Transport, spoke to Bongani Bingwa and said after a female employee was stripped naked and forced to deviate from her scheduled route, employees of Prasa have been left feeling unsafe and shocked at this level of violence.
We are currently working with law enforcement agencies to investigate the cause of this, however it has now been a trend that our new fleet of trains which were only commissioned in the Pretoria to Mamelodi corridor are targeted.— Ishmael Mnisi, Spokesperson, Department of Transport
Mnisi emphasised that the department is taking stock of how much damage they have acquired and the minister will announce how these attacks have affected the department financially thus the suspension of services.
We are indeed engaging with commuter forums at a political level, even former ministers have been engaging with them.— Ishmael Mnisi, Spokesperson, Department of Transport
