Minister Cele: Richard Mdluli got R4.2 million payout for early retirement

Police Minister Bheki Cele responded to a parliamentary question from the Democratic Alliance (DA) on Thursday afternoon about former Crime Intelligence head Richard Mdluli's payouts.

While on suspension for seven years from crime intelligence, Mdluli was paid R8.3 million.

Now Cele confirms Mdluli was paid out just over R4 million after opting for early retirement from Saps. He took home R2.8 million after tax.

This excludes the pension benefits and gratuity that Mdluli is going to get from the Government Employees’ Pension Fund.

The police has, in fact, been criticised by the Public Service Commission for the way his disciplinary process was conducted, says Davis.

Before he was suspended he remained in office, even though he was facing these very serious charges of murder and kidnap.

She says the disciplinary process 'never got anywhere'.

Then he was given the choice to come back to work and face an internal investigation or take early retirement. And of course, he chose early retirement and walked away with his pockets nicely lines.
