Senior Saps officers finally charged for their role in Marikana massacre
Former North West deputy police commissioner William Mpembe is one of nine people charged in connection with two cases linked to the Marikana massacre.
The group appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Mpembe was arrested as a result of the recommendations from the commission of inquiry into the massacre.
He and three other senior officers were released on a warning after appearing on charges of contravening the Ipid Act and defeating the ends of justice.
Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) President Joseph Mathunjwa says those who gave the instructions should also be charged.
We agree with the specialist who was coming from the US to say it was a political decision. It cannot be coming from Mpembe.Joseph Mathunjwa, Amcu President
I hope and trust that those police will have the guts to say this decision or what we embarked on was through this instruction coming from this particular office.Joseph Mathunjwa, Amcu President
