'Makwakwa is not going to get away with this, same goes for Moyane'

Corruption Watch says it will pursue a private criminal prosecution against South African Revenue Services (Sars) commissioner Tom Moyane and former senior tax official Jonas Makwakwa if the Hawks does not continue its investigation. Makwakwa resigned on Wednesday amid controversy over his reappointment in 2017. The former Sars top official has been accused of corruption and money-laundering relating to money paid to his personal bank account. Moyane came under criticism for failing to act against Makwakwa and overseeing a questionable disciplinary probe that cleared him of any wrongdoing. Karima Brown spoke to Executive Director of Corruption Watch, David Lewis.

One can speculate that they each know something about each other that would cause them to protect each other.

There is still an active corruption investigation, he [Makwakwa] has not explained where he got the cash from that he was stuffing into the ATM's.
