In this segment of South Africans Doing Great Things, #NightTalk host Gugu Mhlungu chats to the founder of Ikamva LeAfrika Education Foundation Amanda Charles about how her NPO is improving literacy for school-going girls that have an interest in Science.
Charles says that the foundation was founded in 2015 by herself and a group of friends because they discovered that the system of Education in South Africa is two parallel systems within one. Charles adds that the outcome of the two systems don’t benefit the children that come out of them.
Our aim is to ensure that children who come from schools in the township and rural areas receive the same education as model C schools.
We are currently running a literacy improvement programme with 9 girls in the area.

Long term we do want to see ourselves being more effective in that space where we have access to schools.
