The Transvaal Agricultural Union say the African National Congress (ANC) is supporting land expropriation without compensation to gain ground on the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Speaking to Bongani Bingwa on the Breakfast Show, the union's president says although the land issue has long been part of the ANC's policy, it has come apace since Cyril Ramaphosa became president.
We must realise that it has always been part of ANC policy, it's written in the Freedom Charter, it's written in the strategy and tactics; and they believe the NDR is the quickest way to archive that and a way to socialism and communism. That has been the promise all along for the ANC; just that now with Ramaphosa it came a bit more to the fore— Louis Meintjes, President of the Transvaal Agricultural Union
Meintjes says the public hearings being held on Section 25 of the Constitution are just 'window dressing', and that since the ANC holds the majority, they will decide on what they want.
Are they serious about it; are they serious with expropriation? We saw what happened in Zimbabwe with exactly the same policy.— Louis Meintjes, President of the Transvaal Agricultural Union
