Cricket Australia is expected to take a tough stance against Australia’s national cricket team following the cheating incident in their third test against South Africa at Newlands at the weekend.
On Saturday, Australia’s cricket captain Steve Smith confessed to coming up with a plan with senior players to tamper with the ball during the match.
The act by batsman Cameron Bancroft, was caught on camera.
Smith has been fined 100% of his match fee and suspended for one test match, while Bancroft has been fined 75% of his match fee and handed three demerit points for his involvement.
Bongani Bingwa spoke to cricket commentator Telford Vice for his take on the matter.
I don't think it was much of a confession, he wouldn't have confessed if he hadn't been caught. It is surprising though to see Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft come out and confess, I am not sure whether, if they were a couple of South Africans, whether that would have happened.— Telford Vice, Cricket Commentator
The [Australian] prime minister has weighed in with strong comments and Australia's head of integrity is on his way over to come and mount an investigation. So they are taking it incredibly seriously, much more seriously I think than South Africa would.— Telford Vice, Cricket Commentator
