Guptas a no-show in Indian court

The Gupta brothers Atul and Ajay were supposed to appear before the tax authorities in India today to answer to allegations including fraud and money laundering.

The Indian tax authorities previously raided Gupta properties in Dehradun and Saharanpur on 6 March.

They have not shown up so far. At least there is no physical information that they have arrived. They are apparently in Dubai and they had asked for a one month extension which the tax authorities have denied.

Narayan says if the Guptas do not show up in India the authorities will continue to retain control over those properties.

They will tighten the screws in the sense that they will lock up their properties that have already been seized and those 300 unsigned cheques are now in the control of the tax authorities.
