Professor Marwala: UJ has its challenges but we are doing well

The new vice chancellor of the University of Johannesburg, Professor Tshilidzi Marwala says the appointment is a huge responsibility.

Speaking to Stephen Grootes on the Afternoon Drive show, Marwala says it is a big task to educate 50 000 students who will contribute positively to the economy, politics and the society.

Like any other large institutions we will have our own challenges but certainly we are doing well. Our finances are sound, our staff is being paid on time; they are dedicated to their work which is to educate the South African people.

Professor Tshilidzi Marwala, University of Johannesburg Vice Chancellor

Professor Marwala says his priority is to transform the university of Johannesburg to be able to use resources available online.

What is happening now, universities around the world are transforming, for example, much of the knowledge we used to give our students is now online. And we can not build a university while ignorant of the fact that much of the knowledge you are teaching is online.
