Despite the seriousness of human trafficking, data on this in South Africa is relatively low.
Deputy justice and constitutional development minister, John Jeffery says that it's difficult to determine how prevalent human trafficking in the country is. He says that while the number of cases is low, the allegations of trafficking is quite extensive.
One of the problems is that there will be large figures bandied about in the media, but when you go to the police or prosecuting authority as to how many they are investigating or prosecuting, it's not so much.— John Jeffery, Deputy minister of Justice and constitutional development
