702 and Eyewitness News bid farewell to Stephen Grootes after 15 years

Radio show host Stephen Grootes aired his final show with Radio 702 on Thursday with an emotional and spirited goodbye.

Grootes will be leaving his role as 702’s afternoon drive host in mid-April to take on a new venture.

The 702 and the Eye Witness News team surprised him with a few messages of support and encouragement.

Editor in Chief at EWN, Katy Katopodis had the following to say.

This team is going to be poorer without you but you know what, we know that you are going on to very interesting things. We adore you, the time we have spent with you, you have driven us absolutely nuts. I am glad you and I survived our big fight of your career, when you came off the 702 news desk to become a political reporter.

Katy Katopodis, Editor in Chief at EWN

His colleagues Thando Kubheka, Gia Nicolaides and Masego Rahlaga are only some of the individuals who have expressed just how much they will miss him.

From the mistress association, I am so devastated by you departure. The newsroom will never be the same without you.

Thando Kubheka, Eyewitness News reporter

Stephen my work husband, we have fights on email, you have advised me, shouted at me, said some stuff. I am going to miss you so much.

Masego Rahlaga, Eyewitness News reporter

You have been here for more than 15 years. We are here today to thank you for your wisdom, sarcasm and dare I say for playing the father figure role in our newsroom

Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter
