An emotional Simphiwe Dana has told 702 how happy she is that she was able to honour Winnie Madikizela-Mandela while she was still alive.
Mrs Madikizela-Mandela died at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on Monday at the age of 81.
Speaking to Bongani Bingwa, Dana says Mam' Winnie should be revered rather than criticised.
I'm feeling very sad how we treated her and all the lies we told about her. She symbolises to me the crucified, black women and it makes me so sad that any other women might go through what she did, for them to be in service of their people.— Simphiwe Dana, Musician
In 2016 Dana had the opportunity to perform a tribute song for the struggle stalwart.
I really believe she was quite happy I sang that song for her.— Simphiwe Dana, Musician
