Sophie de Bruyn recounts her final moments with Madikizela-Mandela

Struggle stalwart Sophie de Bruyn says she exchanged notes and shared recollections of her struggle days with Winnie Madikizela- Mandela during a hospital visit in January.

Madikizela-Mandela died at the age of 81 on Easter Monday at the Millpark Hospital after a long illness.

De Bruyn says Madikizela-Mandela did not behave like a sick person and was overjoyed to see her.

I went to see her there in hospital and she was overjoyed to see me, we held hands and reminisced about our own struggle days when we were young.

She was overjoyed and spoke excitedly about that time and compared it to the time that we are in now, when all of these really ugly things that were happening over the past nine years, really dark days of our democracy.

She says South African youth must emulate her footsteps and what she stood for.

It is now time for us to do things right and stop all our nonsense.
