Former Acsa chief executive Monhla Hlahla to head new Denel board

Public enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has announced Denel's new board.

The state arms manufacturer has been experiencing severe liquidity challenges.

It emerged in December that the company was unable to pay its staff salaries before Christmas.

Former Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) chief executive Monhla Hlahla has been appointed as the new chairperson of the board.

She is a former chief executive of Acsa, she has been a non-executive director at Exxaro Resources, so coming with long history of credentials there related to management such as this.

The message from Pravin Gordhan is we need to restore sound corporate governance, review the effective management team and of course a few major contracts that Denel has entered into.
