Facebook data leak: 'Facebook doesn't seem to have read terms and conditions'

Facebook data leak
Even Facebook didn't seem to know the full extent of what its data was being used for says Stuff Magazine editor Craig Wilson.

Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has been facing hard questions on Capitol Hill in Washington, about how the data of millions of Facebook users was misused.

The data was allegedly used by Cambridge Analytica during the US presidential election but the company refutes those allegations.

The Midday report played a clip of Senator Bill Nelson asking Zuckerberg:

Do you think you have an ethical obligation to notify 87 million Facebook users?

Senator Bill Nelson

Zuckerberg replied that when the company had been informed by Cambridge Analytics that the data had been erased, it had considered the matter closed.

In retrospect, that was a mistake and we should not have taken their word for it.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO Facebook

He says Facebook is updating its policies to ensure this does not happen again.

READ: 'Facebook breach highlights the extent to which people's data is being given up'

Speaking to Ray White on The Midday Report, editor at Stuff Magazine Craig Wilson said it is only when incidences arise that we figure out what rules need to be created to prevent the same things happening in the future.

Even Facebook it seems didn't actually know the full extent of what its data was being used for. The big problem here really seems to be the terms and conditions as this is not a data breach in the traditional sense of data being listed by nefarious means.

Craig Wilson, Editor at Stuff Magazine

Wilson says he does not see droves of users leaving the platform.
