We are trying to close all gaps and make sure we work in synergy - Senzo Mchunu

African National Congress (ANC) national working committee member and former Kwazulu-Natal chairman Senzo Mchunu says an intervention is underway to resolve issues of factionalism in the province.

While preparations for the party's national 2019 campaign are in place tensions continue in the Kwazulu-Natal region as a provincial elective conference scheduled for this weekend has been postponed indefinitely.

The postponement follows a meeting of ANC leaders in Howick in the KZN Midlands which ended in chaos on Monday.

Mchunu says the national working committee will be visiting the province next week.

In the NEC where all provinces are represented it has been made clear that unity and renewal are the focus of this period. Over and above that we need to be ready to work very hard on the ground.

The NEC as the overall structure understands that it has to work hard, including going to provinces persuading comrades - including those who have differences, practically assisting them and intervening where necessary so we don't get held up by ongoing problems if there are.

Those interventions are underway. For instance the national working committee will be going to Kwazulu- Natal next week. We are already, as a team of NEC members, from the Western Cape. We are trying to close all gaps and make sure we work in synergy.
