'Mother who protected child rapist is sentenced, but accused is still at large'

The Teddy Bear Clinic says it is dissatisfied with a forensic investigation into a man accused of raping a baby om 2016.

A life sentence has been handed to a Soweto mother after she was found guilty of protecting her daughter's rapist.

The 29-year old woman was sentenced in the High Court in Johannesburg on Thursday.

Staff at the Baragwanath Hospital alerted police to the incident in November when a baby was admitted with severe injuries.

Aubrey Masango spoke to Dr Shaheda Omar, Clinical Director at Teddy Bear Clinic says the perpetrator is still at large.

A strong point of contention or dissatisfaction around the forensic investigations around the perpetrator who is still at large and no progress has been made. This is an incident that happened to 2016 so he has to be brought to book.

Dr Shaheda Omar, Clinical Director at Teddy Bear Clinic

Under no circumstances should we as a society tolerate this kind of violence. We should stop now and say never again, not ever again against any child.
