#SADGT: Waterless & environmentally friendly toilets introduced in rural areas

Executive Director of Hula U Gude Projects Thuli Mashaba chats about the challenges of being a woman in construction and explains the innovation of her waterless environmentally friendly toilets.

Mashaba says that she happened to be on a contractor mentorship program conducted by the Government. She adds that this was how she was informed about the sanitation problems in rural schools.

I became one of the implementing agents and I’ve been doing that since last 2015 says Mashaba.

It’s environmentally friendly, it’s mainly for water scarce areas and it almost looks like the waterborne toilets in terms of safety and how it’s built and how it looks.

Thuli Mashaba, executive director of Hula U Gude Projects

Mashaba says that they build and adjust toilets according to the end users’ needs. She adds that they use a certain chemical and mentions that the toilets need to be serviced after a particular period.
