'He raped me every day for a year when I was 8 years old'

Nonzukiso Dibela is a survivor.

She is example of how one can heal from the worst possible trauma and go on to live a fulfilled and meaningful life in spite of painful challenges.

In her self published memoir, Unleashing Pain: The Changing Gears she describes, in detail, her childhood in the Eastern Cape and how, after being adopted by an aunt at just 6-years-old, she was sexually abused by her uncle.

He came to my bed and he started to touch me in my private parts. From that day I was never the same person.

Nonzukiso Dibela, author

She also tackles the often taboo subject of mental health challenges, describing her own battles with depression and suicidal thoughts.

When I came to Cape Town I was diagnosed with depression, but I was in denial. The doctor said to me, 'you have depression', but I said, 'I've been feeling like this for as far back as I can remember'.
