Economist Thabi Leoka says President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed an exceptional team of investment special envoys.
President Ramaphosa named former finance minister Trevor Manuel, former deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas, executive chairperson of Afropulse Group Phumzile Langeni, and Liberty Group chair and former CEO of Standard Bank Jacko Maree as a special investment envoy.
Leoka says the team's assignment will not be a duplication of works done by government departments.
I don't see a duplication with government duplication, I just see that it could be a duplication with what brand SA does and other such organisations do.— Thabi Leoka, Economist
With Treasury, they would go on roadshows targeting specific investors who invest in SA already and those within the financial markets.— Thabi Leoka, Economist
Leoka says the appointment of people like Jonas and Manuel is a positive move politically.
I don't think they come with political baggage, I wouldn't use that term only I think they are politically connected which helps, given what they are meant to do.— Thabi Leoka, Economist
