Ten prisoners who escaped from prison are still on the loose, another 3 who escaped after sentencing from the High Court in Johannesburg are also still at large.
This comes after 16 awaiting trial prisoners escaped from the Johannesburg prison last Monday after breaking through the iron bars on windows at the jail cells.
Two of the inmates were later killed in a shootout with police in Kwazulu Natal.
Concerns have been raised about prisoners escaping from custody following the two incidents in Joburg just last week, highlighting the possibility of poor infrastructure and corruption.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Lungelo Dlamini spoke to Thembekile Mrototo on The Midday Report and said 6 out of the 16 prisoners have been found.

Another three prisoners who had just been sentenced to life behind bars escaped on Thursday as they were being led to the police van transporting them to the correctional services facility.
They are dangerous criminals sentenced to four life terms each, and they have not yet been found, but there is a team that has been appointed to look for them.— Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, Gauteng police spokesperson
There is also an internal investigation underway to try to find anyone involved.
