Political analyst Ralph Mathekga says former president Jacob Zuma legal fees woes will be a dilemma for government and the political leadership.
On Wednesday, the Presidency confirmed that it has withdrawn its application for leave to appeal the personal costs order against former president Jacob Zuma.
Zuma is potentially liable for a legal bill of about R10 million for his failed review of the Public Protector’s State of Capture report.
When the court decided to say Mr Zuma should take responsibility for those legal fees, what the court was meant to address was to stop frivolous litigation on the side Mr Zuma.— Ralph Mathekga, Political Analyst
And the main purpose was to punish him with that legal bill that he has to foot now. So if a political agreement is being made by the state or political leaders to foot the bill so far that will defeat the whole purpose of the court.— Ralph Mathekga, Political Analyst
Mathekga says it seems like North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo is under siege.
The motion of no confidence against him brought by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has been postponed.
