The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) say they have been expecting the likes of AfriForum to come after them since the land expropriation without compensation vote in Parliament.
AfriForum on Thursday announced that it would pursue private prosecution against EFF leader Julius Malema in a matter related to the On Point Engineering case.
Speaking to Thembekile Mrototo on the Midday report, EFF deputy secretary general, Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi says the party is not surprised by AfriForum's move and they have been waiting for it.
We must question the timing. We must also question why AfriForum and not the NPA, who are supposed to say okay, we are ready with the case.— Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi, EFF Deputy Secretary General
The fact is that AfriForum, which represents the ultra-right wing formation of white racists, is fighting the EFF because of their radical policy which is the land expropriation.— Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi, EFF Deputy Secretary General
Meanwhile, EWN senior reporter Barry Bateman says it's not a certain deal yet. With a private prosecution, the applicant requires a certificate from the NPA stating that the State will no longer pursue the same matter.
When the matter was struck off the roll in 2015, the NPA said they will look at when they can re-enroll it. This does not amount to an acquittal...it hasn't been re-enrolled so now it's back at the hands of the NPA.— Barry Bateman, Senior EWN reporter
Malema responded to AfriForum and here is what he said:
Bring it on bloody racists, you don’t scare me at all. I’m born ready! No white man will decide my destiny, the poor masses of our people will... pic.twitter.com/nKkjHbXqYv— Julius Sello Malema (@Julius_S_Malema) April 19, 2018
Listen to whether Malema will be fighting alone or the EFF will fight for him:
