Political Desk: 'Mahumapelo won't step down without our people dying' - Analyst

The situation remains tense in Mahikeng in the North West, as residents continue their calls for premier Supra Mahumapelo to step down.

The protests have led to President Cyril Ramaphosa cutting short his trip to the U.K. to attended to the situation.

Senior Lecturer at the School of Economics and Business Science at Wits Lumkile Mondi commended the President for returning to the country before lives are lost.

There are two factions in the ANC and we know very well that Supra was part of the faction that supported Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, as well as President Zuma, when he was our president ,and therefore he's got no interest in stepping down without our people dying.

Mondi says once member's names are implicated in corruption and or wrongdoing the ANC should ask them to step down.

When your name is under suspicion please step down. Allow those that are cleaner and care about people to come in. I hope that is the message Ramaphosa will send to his team and action be taken so we don't lose any lives of our people.
